Dr. Juniper Harrower founded and served as the first director of the Norris Center’s Art + Science Initiative, developing its residency, curriculum, and programming while she was a UCSC Environmental Studies graduate student. The initiative also had an early institutional connection with UCSC OpenLab, which provided art-science precedents, resources, and studio access for the residency.
Art Professor Karolina Karlic later became the Norris Center’s Art + Science Faculty Director, helping expand and integrate its art–science programming within UCSC’s teaching, research, and creative practice.
Chris Lay helped build the institutional foundation for the Norris Center, directing UCSC’s natural history collections from 2008 and guiding their development into the Kenneth S. Norris Center for Natural History.
