Short Description
Rachel Berger's recorded research talk featuring prompts that encourage uncommon reflections on the past, present, and possible futures. Adapted from a series of creative workshops Rachel Berger and Ri Dym conducted with Berkeley middle school students. In the workshops, students produced diverse statements and drawings responding to Berkeley’s past and imagining speculative future “histories” for themselves and their city.
Description
HERE, HERE (2021-2022 ) is a communal exploration of the past, present, and possible futures for Berkeley and its young people. With support from a Berkeley Civic Arts Commission grant, Berger and Dym led a series of creative workshops in Berkeley’s middle schools. In the workshops, students produced diverse statements and drawings reflecting on Berkeley’s past and imagining speculative future “histories.” The workshops resulted in a poster, a publication, and a collection of speculative flags that flew on middle school flagpoles.
